LLC Update — Six Months Later

LLC Update — Six Months Later

It’s been a while since my last update, but as I said, I filed for my LLC back in May. It’s now November, and after the last step, there really wasn’t a whole lot to talk about.

After I filed for my LLC, I waited a few weeks and received my paperwork in the mail. I used AmeriLawyer to file the paperwork since they had a low, one-price-fits-all structure. For the most part, they were what they said, but not included in your filing fees for them was an additional $200-something check I had to write to the state. While they say they cover all of the filing fees, they don’t cover the state filing fee. I was disappointed to learn this, but I sent the check anyway and my paperwork went through.

Once the LLC was formally set up, I could legally do business. I am only doing a small amount of business right now, so I don’t have a lot to say about the early stages of my entrepreneurship.

I was able to use my newly formed LLC to get myself a federal tax ID, which I was able to use to open a business checking account. This isn’t a vital step, since I’m really the only owner and don’t have many employees, but it’s important for bookkeeping and staying organized. No longer am I using my personal checking account to do business, which makes things easier and gives you peace of mind.

I suppose owning a corporation is kind of like getting married or having a birthday — you know that something important just happened, but there isn’t a whole lot that changed in your life. It is comforting to know I have a corporate name behind me for liability purposes.

I’ll update more in the future, assuming the business actually does some business.

WOW, What falsehoods. Amerilawyer prices are complete and include filing fees and much more. They never MAIL LLC’s or Corporations to Clients, they are all shipped FedEx. The BEST deal for forming a company is at http://www.amerilawyer.com. Additionally you will get a ton of info at amerilawyer.com

Well thank you for the ad for Amerilawyer, but I was the one writing the checks, and I promise you, there was more than one written. That is not the definition of one price including all. I paid the fee that was advertised on the site, and received my paperwork via FEDEX that said I owed $125 to the Nevada SOS. I contacted Amerilawyer and they told me that my fee to them was “the fee to get you incorporated.” I still owed the state money to register the names of those who were members in the corporation.

I don’t know if you’re writing as a representative of Amerilawyer or just a big fan, but perhaps your experience with them was different than mine. If you think that you can get incorporated for just the dollar amount listed on the website, then go ahead and try it. I’d love to hear your results.

I am not complaining about the service I got. I got everything that I wanted out of Amerilawyer, it just cost me a bit more than they advertised, or so I was led to believe they were advertising. Perhaps I missed the part where it said that I would pay $104.95 for my complete price and filing fees, AND I would have to pay the state $125 to register the names of those included in the corporation. The facts are the facts.

I still recommend them, but I felt the need to include my story for anyone else who is in the position I was in to learn from. I have no regrets using Amerilawyer, and if I ever start another company, I’ll likely use them again.
